Terms of use

Short version:calqcomp provides calculation tools for informational purposes only. We're not a financial advisor. Don't sign a loan based on what you see here without talking to a professional. The math is correct to the best of our knowledge; the decisions you make with it are yours.

1. Acceptance

By using calqcomp.com (the "Site") you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, don't use the Site. We reserve the right to update these Terms occasionally; the "Last updated" date at the bottom reflects the most recent change. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

2. What the Site is

calqcomp is a small set of fixed-rate, fully-amortizing loan-calculation tools aimed at consumers making financing decisions. The Site currently offers three tools: loan comparison (rank multiple offers by total cost), amortization with extra payments (see the full schedule and the effect of paying down faster), and borrow-vs-invest (the question of whether to take a loan or pay cash). Together these are the "Tools."

The Tools run entirely in your browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit the financial inputs you type into them. State persists only via shareable URL (the address bar) and localStorage (the "Saved scenarios" feature).

3. No financial, legal, or tax advice

The Site is a calculator, not a recommendation. Nothing on the Site is financial, legal, tax, or investment advice. We do not hold a fiduciary license. We do not know your full financial picture, your tax bracket, your goals, or your appetite for risk.

The Tools' outputs are estimates based on the inputs you provide. Actual loan terms (APR, fees, prepayment penalties, tax treatment, variable rates that may kick in later) will differ. Before you sign anything, confirm the numbers with your lender and, for amounts large enough to matter, a fiduciary financial advisor who is paid by you and not by commission.

4. Accuracy

We try to keep the math correct. We use the standard PMT formula (P × i / (1 − (1 + i)−n)) for monthly payment, the same formula your lender uses. The amortization schedule is generated by walking the loan month by month with the actual remaining balance, not by a closed form that drifts at the last row.

Despite that, there may be bugs. If you find one, please email us. The math is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind — see Section 7. Verify the numbers against your own spreadsheet or your lender's schedule before relying on the result for a real decision.

5. Availability

We try to keep the Site up. We do not guarantee uptime. The Site may be slow, down, or wrong without warning. We may change, remove, or add Tools at any time. If a calculation matters — for a real loan, a real decision — double-check it with a second source before signing.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Scrape the Site to mirror the Tools in a competing product.
  • Hammer the Site with automated requests faster than a human could reasonably generate them. The Site is a single small container; sustained abuse may temporarily make it slow for other users.
  • Use the Site in any way that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation.
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, security measures, or any access controls on the Site.
  • Use the Site to harass, defame, or harm another person.

Personal use is welcome. Quoting, linking, and screenshots in a blog post or a discussion are fine. If you want to reproduce the Tools as a separate product, ask first.

7. No warranty

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Site and the Tools are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Tools will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the results will be correct. We do not warrant that the Site or the servers that make it available are free of viruses or other harmful components.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of calqcomp, its contributors, and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages (including loss of money, lost opportunity, lost reputation, or any other non-physical harm) arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Site or the Tools, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion of certain damages, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

This is the part that matters: if a decision you make based on the Site costs you money — a wrong loan choice, a missed prepayment, a tax surprise — that is on you, not on us. The Site helps you compute; it does not make the decision.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of calqcomp from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.

10. Third-party services and data

The Site is served through Cloudflare's CDN. Cloudflare processes standard request metadata (IP, user agent, request URL) for security and performance. Their handling of that data is governed by the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

If the Site ever adds analytics or advertising (e.g. Plausible for traffic, Google AdSense for revenue), those will be disclosed on the Privacy page before they go live. We will not introduce third-party tracking scripts without updating the privacy policy.

11. Intellectual property

The Site's source code, layout, copy, and design are the property of the operator. The Tools compute values based on formulas in the public domain (specifically, the standard installment-loan PMT formula and ordinary present-value arithmetic); you may use those formulas yourself for any purpose. The implementation of those formulas in this Site is original code and is not yours to reproduce.

You may link to or quote the Site freely, with attribution.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Site shall be resolved exclusively in the state and federal courts located in New York County, New York.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
